Taikisha Green Procurement Guidelines

Policy for the Basic environment

Taikisha shall strive to protect the global environment while being conscious of its mission as a company engaged in business related to the environment.
In order to protect the global environment, we shall make the best efforts to incorporate system designs and construction technologies related to energies, air, and water into developing new technologies and spreading them throughout society.
We shall also strive to protect the global environment with its affiliates both in Japan and abroad while recognizing as a cross-border issue.

Procurement objectives

Our procurement objectives are as follows:

  1. 1.Promotion of abatement of energy and materials
  2. 2.Reduction of construction by-products through promotion of the use of prefabrication and the recycling of waste materials
  3. 3.Efficient transportation of equipment and materials as well as promotion of minimization and recycling of packing materials
  4. 4.Promotion of the recovery and recycling of resources through systems designed to eliminate harmful chemical substances, etc.
  5. 5.Protection of the natural environment

Scope of procurement

Green procurement as specified in these guidelines shall apply to materials, construction methods, technologies, and systems related to our business operations (hereinafter referred to as "green procurement items").

This guidelines shall describe policy for our procurement activities. However, as a company concerned to the environment business, we also take an important role as a constructor of materials, construction methods, and technologies which contribute to reducing the impact on the environment. Therefore, promotion to spread the materials, construction methods, and technologies developed by our company through green procurement and other methods shall be integral part of the most important activities.

Evaluation criteria for procurement items

Decision on whether or not items are acceptable as green procurement items shall be made after a comprehensive evaluation based on how they contribute to reduction of the impact on the environment compared to conventional products with equivalent functions. Evaluation criteria are as follows:

  1. 1.Lesser impact on the environment when equipment and materials are constructed or operated (for consumption of energy and resources, etc.)
  2. 2.Use of recycled resources for production materials
  3. 3.Lesser impact on the environment during construction (for waste generation, energy consumption, noise, vibration, etc.)
  4. 4.Lesser impact on the environment during operation (for energy consumption, emission of harmful substances, etc.)
  5. 5.Long life expectancy (durability, easy renewal and conversion, etc.)
  6. 6.Easy recycle after disposed
  7. 7.Easy process after disposed (easy processing, whether or not it contains harmful substances, etc.)

However, the materials, construction methods, and technologies developed by us in compliance with the criteria above, items that comply with official criteria, including the evaluation criteria for designated procurement items specified in the Rules for Green Purchasing and accreditation criteria for EcoMark-certified products, shall be taken into preferential consideration for procurement.

Execution

Selection of procurement items and notification of those items

  1. 1.The Green Procurement Working Group established under the Environmental Enhancement Committee shall select items to be procured and compile them into the Green Procurement Item List after obtaining approval in the Company-wide Purchasing Meeting, and notify the list to concerned staffs (The Green Procurement Working Group shall consist of members of the Company-wide Purchasing Committee)
  2. 2.The Green Procurement Item List shall be reviewed annually

Incorporation in Design and construction

  1. 1.Designers shall propose the adoption of green procurement items to customers in order to promote the use of those items
  2. 2.Purchasing and construction departments shall propose the adoption of green procurement items to designers and customers in order to promote the use of those items
  3. 3.Purchasing Dept. and construction Dept. shall request that suppliers (business partners and materials / equipment suppliers) to cooperate in related efforts, and use green purchase items and simpler packing methods
  4. 4.If items determined to reduce the impact on the environment when compared to those in the original design specifications are included, construction departments shall make an effort to use those items regardless of whether or not they are designated as green procurement items (3. Items that comply with the procurement evaluation criteria)
  5. 5.In any of the above cases, items for procurement must meet the required quality and cost requirements

Monitoring the performance

  1. 1.The Green Procurement Working Group shall compile the actual green procurement performance data once a year in order to monitor and assess procurement activity implementation
  2. 2.The items to be included in performance data shall be selected by the Green Procurement Working Group, which is a subordinate organization of the Environmental Enhancement Committee, based on their performance status, construction material versatility, the scale of social need for the activity, and other factors
  3. 3.The items included in the performance data shall be reviewed annually
  4. 4.Annual green procurement performance data shall be announced by "environmental reports and etc"

Award of "Excellent Green Procurement Company"

Understanding and cooperation of suppliers are indispensable for green procurement.
By annually granting an award to a company that achieved distinguished results regarding green procurement as an "Excellent Green Procurement Company", we shall appreciate suppliers' understanding and cooperation so as to strengthen partnerships and further promote our green procurement activities.

  1. 1.The company that has achieved the most distinguished result regarding green procurement is recommended by the Head of the Purchasing Management Dept. and the Head of the Purchasing Dept. as for "Excellent Green Procurement Company" after obtaining approval of the Green Procurement Working Group and the Environmental Officer. (The Green Procurement Working Group is a subordinate organization of the Environmental Enhancement Committee and consists of members of the Company-wide Purchasing Meeting)
  2. 2.The "Excellent Green Procurement Company" is awarded by the Environmental Officer
  3. 3.The "Excellent Green Procurement Company" is annually selected for award
  4. 4.Award on "Excellent Green Procurement Company" is annually announced by "Environmental Reports"
